The
School of Law of the University of Havana and the Cuban Society for Criminal
Sciences of the Union of Cuban Jurists are pleased to announce the International
Meeting “VIII Havana Summer School on Contemporary Criminal Topics in Honor of
Professor Dr.
Eugenio
Raúl Zaffaroni”, to be held
in parallel with the “llI Ibero-American Forum
on Economic Criminal Law” and the “III Cuba-Venezuela Interuniversity Meeting on
the Teaching of Law”.
Since
Havana Summer School has become a significant space for debate and academic
reference among Latin American Criminal Law and Criminology professionals, the
Organizing Committee has agreed to devote these sessions to the internationally
recognized academic works of Dr. Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni, a renowned practicing Criminal Lawyer of our
continent, Emeritus Professor of the University of Buenos Aires and Member of
the Supreme Court of Justice of Argentina, who has authored many books and
articles on Criminal Law and contributed to the qualification and development of
several generations of Cuban criminal lawyers through his work and participation
in scientific conferences held in Havana.
For
these reasons we are herein inviting Law professionals and students, friends and
everyone with an interest in the various institutions of Criminal Law into which
Professor Eugenio Raúl Zaffaroni has made incursions, to join us in this
well-deserved tribute to his educational and professional
work.
The
participants will receive a certificate of attendance to this postgraduate
activity, which will additionally carry an Academic Credit recognized by the
University of
Havana, valid for the
Postgraduate Courses offered in Cuban universities (specialties or Master’s
Degrees in Criminal Law or Criminology).

fee
The
registration fee will be 180.00 convertible Cuban pesos (CUCs) to be paid in
cash at the time of accreditation. A convertible
Cuban peso (CUC) is equivalent to USD $1.0960 when bank transfers or credit
cards are used or the transaction is made in cash with currencies other than the
US dollar.
The
fee will be CUC $120.00 for undergraduate students (subject to presentation of
the relevant accrediting certificate) and CUC $100.00 for accompanying persons
wishing to attend all scheduled events.
Fees
include: Participation in all sessions of the
Conference, coffee breaks, farewell cocktail and certificate of
attendance.
Foreign
participants are recommended to pay preferably in cash using euros, sterling
pounds, Canadian dollars, Swiss francs, Japanese yens or Mexican pesos, since
U.S. dollars are subject to an additional 10% tax when exchanged for Cuban
convertible pesos (CUC), of which you will get 0.87 CUC for one U.S. dollar (the
10% tax plus the profit margin of the bank transaction).
Package
tours have been designed and made available at travel agencies in your country
where trips to Cuba are organized. VIAJES CUBANACAN
will be your host agency in Cuba.
The
Organizing Committee will be very grateful to any institution, agency,
publication or individual who publishes this announcement and makes it known to
universities, law firms, courts of law, prosecutor’s offices, NGOs, legal
